Boccaccio

Read Boccaccio's account of the plague in Florence at the link below. What can you tell about Boccaccio's values and concerns from this account? In what ways might seeing the kinds of things he describes affect his writing and his general view of life?

Boccaccio seems like the type of person that is very knowledgeable. THrough the stories you have described and through the reading it is extrodinary his views on the world. I think it is fantastic that is amaing how he explains everything man vs. (something). HE shows great leadership and great advise through whatever he brings to the tablet.

The spread of the disease ,gavoccioli, scared the people living at this time. Everyone lived with reckless abandoned, living like today was their last. This kind of scared living produced chaos and parents even left their kids alone and in some cases stopped seeing their relatives. I believe that Boccaccio is trying to tell us to live each day to the fullest and to appreciate every second on this planet. I believe that Boccaccio was intelligent and has very good leadership

Boccaccio has high standards and values regarding human beings. He holds family and friends close to his heart and is in disbelief that it is so easy for a family member to leave a loved one all alone to die. If he had not seen this for himself he would not have believed it.
This dark time has affected his writing by showing how people react in times of uncertainty and the unknowing. He proves that when people start running scared they lose all sense of reasoning and fear takes over the mind and body.

Boccacio writes with lots of detail, but he also doesn't write his opinions about what the different groups of people are doing. Like he said, I don't think that people would believe how bad it was if they had not seen it with thier own eyes.
I think having to live through that and seeing it all happen right in front of him, would be really hard. Watching families rip themselves apart to try and not get sick, or watching people just drink and be marry like nothing at all is happening. Having people locked out of the city as to keep the rest of the healthy people from not getting sick, or having animals drop dead just from smelling "infected" clothing. I think that it would make his writing very negative.

Boccaccio was a man who knew much of the world around him. He cared not for only his own good but for the lives of men as well. Boccaccio wanted the human race to flourish and be respectful and just throughout eternity. Boccaccio is full of insight and many people now could benefit from his words and stories.

Boccaccio is a really intelligent man. He sees how this plague is affecting all of the people. He never really says how he feels about how people are acting. I think that it is fairly obvious that he is bothered by the new attitude people have for their dead and dieing relatives. Because a vast percentage of people were living rather recklessly and abandoning all morals living each day like it was their last. But in a way that was apart of Boccaccio's thinking that you should never take any moment for granted!

Boccacio showed many great qualities through his writting. He stated his high standard for all of his loved ones such as his family and friends. He also says how high values are far above many others. Boccacio states how in times when people are out of their comfort zone or are in a place they often lose any sense of reasoning, and make stupid decisions. He continues to say how he could never do such a thing or leave loved ones in times of pain or death. Bocaccio showed many signs of being a very respectable person.

You can tell that he values family and the ones around him very much and he cares greatly for them. With the plauge threatning lives and making people act like they normally dont you can see a darker tone come out of his writting

Boccaccio can see how this deisease is killing people and it worries him. The things that i liked most about Boccaccio is that he is close to his family and cares for them so much. He is very smart and seems to give great advice to whomever he meets. he also has a great understanding of men and understands them very well. In his thoughts I beleive that he wants to have us live each and every day to the fullest because you never no what cane happen.

He seems to value life and people. In his writing it sounds like he is amazed that people can make the kind of decisions that they do. He seems to be equally amazed at how fast and nondiscriminatory the sickness kills people, at least I was by his discription.

Boccaccio talks of the many horrible sights and poverty he had seen during the Black Death. He talks about how people neglected their loved ones during sickness, and how so many people died alone with no one at their bedside. Everything he writes is very depressing. He is aware of the descent of society during this time, and how harmful it can be for a society. People starting neglecting their customs and had no concern for their belongings, thinking they were just going to die anyways. This also caused people to not care about their future needs. For someone like Boccaccio who seems to appreciate the small non-material things in life, this could make a person very wise and appreciative of the good qualities and small joys in life, because they aren't always there.

To me Boccaccio values human interaction and relationships. This writing seems like he is shocked at the fact that people will be alone, just to avoid something. After seeing the plague he probably thought that he should value the day each and every day. LIfe on earth is short and he sounds like he wants to live it as well as possible, and that cant be done when a person is alone.

Boccaccio has high standards. His values are at the highest level. In his writings he doesn’t state his opinion really. He more or less writes about what is happening to people due to the spread of the disease. He is concerned about people and worried about everyone no matter who they are. Some of the things that was going on made it sound like everyone was trying to live one day as if it were their last. He shows the dark side of this disease. In his writings it sounded like no one cared anymore because so many people where dying. Some of the things that affect people’s concerns in life are you minds. Boccaccio made it sound like people thought in their minds that it didn’t matter anymore so they didn’t take the time to stop and think of any ways they could prevent their death. But he is very intelligent and it sounds like in his writings that by being worried about peoples morality, he puts a positive twist on it and states that there is a place where the disease has not spread. People just began to become to negative and gave up on life.
